Race Summary

Jim Clark delivered yet another masterclass at Silverstone, winning his home Grand Prix in front of an adoring British crowd to make it four victories from five starts. The Scottish star's dominance on the fast, flowing former airfield circuit was total, as he controlled the race from start to finish with the smooth precision that had become his trademark. Clark's performance thrilled the enormous crowd who recognized they were watching one of the sport's all-time greats at the absolute peak of his powers. His Lotus 25 danced through Silverstone's high-speed sweepers with a grace that made racing look easy, though rivals knew the reality was that Clark's natural talent made the impossible appear routine. The British Grand Prix triumph moved Clark to the brink of his first World Championship with half the season still remaining.

John Surtees secured an excellent second place for Ferrari, the former motorcycle champion demonstrating his growing adaptation to four wheels with a strong performance. Graham Hill claimed third for BRM, the defending champion's title defense now in tatters as he trailed Clark by an insurmountable margin. The Silverstone crowd's celebrations of Clark's dominance were bittersweet for Hill, who faced the reality that his championship reign would last just one season. Clark's British Grand Prix victory confirmed what everyone already knew - he would be world champion, the only question being when, not if, he would clinch the title mathematically.
