2005-2006
Fernando Alonso Díaz (July 29, 1981 - Present): A Spanish racing driver, Fernando Alonso is a two-time Formula One World Champion and one of the most accomplished drivers in the sport's history. He won the Formula One World Drivers' Championship in 2005 and 2006 with Renault, becoming the youngest champion at the time at age 24. Alonso competed in Formula One from 2001 to 2018 with Minardi, Renault, McLaren, and Ferrari, and returned to the sport in 2021 with Alpine before joining Aston Martin in 2023. Born and raised in Oviedo, Spain, Alonso began karting at age three and became world karting champion in 1996.
His Formula One career has been defined by exceptional racecraft, consistency, and the ability to extract maximum performance from his machinery. After his Renault championships, Alonso spent five years at Ferrari (2010-2014), coming agonizingly close to additional titles but ultimately finishing runner-up three times. During his first "retirement" from F1 (2019-2020), Alonso pursued the "Triple Crown of Motorsport," winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans twice and competing in the Indianapolis 500. His return to Formula One with Alpine saw him score multiple podiums, and in 2023 with Aston Martin, he achieved his 100th career podium.
The 2025 season proved challenging for Alonso and Aston Martin, with the team struggling for competitiveness. Despite the difficulties, the 43-year-old Spaniard finished tenth in the World Drivers' Championship with 56 points, demonstrating his continued commitment and racecraft even in an uncompetitive car. As of the end of 2025, Alonso has achieved 32 race wins, 23 pole positions, and 106 podiums across 427 Grand Prix starts, cementing his legacy as one of Formula One's all-time greats.
