Race Summary
Jack Brabham's magnificent winning streak continued at Silverstone, where he claimed his fourth consecutive victory in front of an enormous British crowd. The Australian's dominance of the 1960 season was now complete, as he controlled the race from start to finish on the fast, flowing former airfield circuit. Brabham's Cooper-Climax proved ideally suited to Silverstone's high-speed sweepers, where precise car placement and smooth inputs allowed the champion to maintain higher corner speeds than his rivals. The victory on British soil was particularly sweet for Brabham and the Cooper team, demonstrating before their home crowd that their championship success was built on genuine technical and competitive superiority. With four wins from four races, Brabham had established an almost unassailable lead in the championship standings.
The race marked a breakthrough moment for John Surtees, the legendary motorcycle champion who claimed his first podium finish in only his second full season of car racing. The seven-time motorcycle world champion's natural talent and fierce competitive spirit were evident as he drove his Lotus to second place, showcasing the adaptability that would later make him the only man to win world championships on both two wheels and four. Innes Ireland completed an all-British podium with third place in another Lotus, with Colin Chapman's team demonstrating growing competitiveness. Bruce McLaren could only manage fourth, losing further ground to his teammate in the championship battle and effectively ending his slim title hopes. The British Grand Prix confirmed what everyone in the paddock already knew - barring disaster, Jack Brabham would be world champion for the second consecutive year.
