Race Summary

Mika Häkkinen delivered a masterclass at Catalunya, dominating from start to finish to claim victory at the Spanish Grand Prix and close the gap to championship leader Michael Schumacher. The two-time World Champion was in sublime form, controlling every phase of the race with precision and never allowing Ferrari to mount a serious challenge. David Coulthard made it another McLaren one-two, with the silver cars demonstrating superior pace on the technical Barcelona circuit.

Rubens Barrichello salvaged third place for Ferrari, but Schumacher could only manage fourth after struggling with the balance of his F1-2000 throughout the race. The result cut Schumacher's championship lead significantly, bringing Häkkinen back into serious contention with two consecutive McLaren victories demonstrating that Ferrari's early-season dominance was not insurmountable. The momentum had swung decisively toward McLaren, setting up an intense championship battle for the European leg of the season as the teams headed to the Nürburgring for the next round.
