Race Summary

Michael Schumacher added another Monaco victory to his growing legacy, mastering the streets of Monte Carlo from pole position to claim his second win at the principality. The German driver delivered a flawless performance on F1's most demanding circuit, never putting a wheel wrong over 78 laps to extend his championship lead to 21 points over Damon Hill.

Hill started from pole but lost the lead to Schumacher at the start, then spent the afternoon unable to find a way past the Benetton. The Williams driver finished second, 35 seconds behind Schumacher, his frustration evident as he once again found himself second best to his great rival. Gerhard Berger completed the podium for Ferrari in third place, while Jean Alesi finished fourth. The race was relatively processional by Monaco standards, with overtaking proving nearly impossible and positions largely determined by qualifying and pit stop strategy.

Schumacher's victory was his third of the season and demonstrated his versatility across different circuit types. His ability to combine raw speed with the precision required for Monaco made him the complete package, and Hill's inability to challenge him raised doubts about the Englishman's capacity to win the championship. The result left Schumacher firmly in control of the title race as the season approached its midpoint.
