Race Summary

Monaco delivered one of 1982's most chaotic finishes as attrition decimated the field in treacherous wet conditions. Riccardo Patrese inherited victory for Brabham when race leader Alain Prost's Renault expired with just laps remaining, giving the Italian his first Grand Prix win. The victory came in bizarre circumstances as cars spun, crashed, and retired throughout the afternoon, leaving only four finishers from 20 starters.

Didier Pironi salvaged second place for Ferrari in what would prove a critical championship result, keeping him in title contention while honoring Gilles Villeneuve's memory. Andrea de Cesaris completed the podium for Alfa Romeo, securing his first top-three finish after years of promise undermined by crashes and mechanical failures. The race epitomized 1982's unpredictability, where survival and consistency mattered as much as outright speed.
