Race Summary
Lewis Hamilton delivered a masterful performance to win the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps, reigniting his championship challenge with a brilliant drive that showcased his exceptional racecraft and tire management. The British driver recovered from a difficult qualifying to claim his third victory of the season, cutting into Mark Webber's championship lead and demonstrating that McLaren remained a force as the title battle intensified in the second half of the season.
Starting from fourth on the grid behind Webber's pole position, Hamilton executed a superb race strategy and made crucial overtaking moves through Spa's legendary corners. The 2008 champion's pace through Eau Rouge, Pouhon, and Blanchimont was exceptional, and he managed his tires brilliantly to emerge in the lead after the pit-stop cycles. Hamilton set the fastest lap and controlled the final stint perfectly, never allowing Webber a chance to attack. His victory at the Cathedral of Speed reminded everyone of his exceptional talent and kept his championship hopes alive despite trailing Webber in the standings.
Webber drove a strong race to finish second, limiting the championship damage despite not having the pace to match Hamilton. The Australian's consistency kept him in the points lead, though his advantage was narrowing. Robert Kubica claimed an excellent third place for Renault, securing his fourth podium of the season and demonstrating the Polish driver's continued competitiveness. The race was marked by several incidents, including a spectacular crash for Vitantonio Liuzzi. Hamilton's victory cut Webber's championship lead to three points, with Alonso, Vettel, and Button all within striking distance. The incredibly tight championship battle promised a thrilling final six races.
