Race Summary
Lewis Hamilton delivered a commanding victory at the German Grand Prix at the Nürburgring, dominating the race from start to finish to claim his second win of the season and deny Red Bull another victory. The British driver produced a masterful performance to beat Fernando Alonso and Mark Webber, capitalizing on superior race pace and tire management to control proceedings at the demanding Eifel circuit.
Mark Webber claimed yet another pole position with a lap of 1:30.079 - his fourth of the season - but once again failed to convert it into victory, continuing his frustrating pattern of strong qualifying followed by race-day disappointment. Hamilton, starting from second, made an aggressive move at the start to seize the lead and never looked back. The McLaren MP4-26 showed excellent race pace on the Nürburgring's combination of slow corners and long straights, and Hamilton managed his Pirelli tires expertly to maintain a comfortable gap to his pursuers. He also set the fastest lap of 1:34.302, completing a dominant weekend that demonstrated McLaren's development progress.
Alonso drove another brilliant race to claim second place for Ferrari, once again extracting maximum performance from the F150 Italia despite its pace deficit to the leading teams. The Spaniard's consistency and racecraft kept him firmly in championship contention despite his inferior machinery. Webber salvaged third place, ahead of teammate Sebastian Vettel who could only manage fourth after a difficult race by his standards. Jenson Button finished fifth for McLaren, rounding out a solid points haul for the Woking team. Hamilton's victory cut Vettel's championship lead slightly and proved that on certain circuits, McLaren could match Red Bull's pace. However, with Vettel still holding a commanding points advantage midway through the season, the championship battle remained firmly in the German's control.
