Race Summary
Carlos Sainz ended Red Bull's unprecedented dominance with a brilliant victory at the Singapore Grand Prix, claiming Ferrari's first win of the season and becoming the only non-Red Bull driver to win in 2023. The Spanish driver converted pole position into victory under the Marina Bay lights, masterfully managing the grueling 62-lap street race to break Verstappen's winning streak.
Starting from pole, Sainz controlled the race with mature pace management in the sweltering heat and humidity of Singapore. Lando Norris delivered an excellent drive to finish second for McLaren, while Lewis Hamilton secured third place for Mercedes and set the fastest lap. Verstappen could only manage fifth place after qualifying poorly and struggling with the RB19's setup on the bumpy street circuit. George Russell finished fourth for Mercedes, giving the Silver Arrows their best result since the Spanish Grand Prix.
The victory was a watershed moment - Red Bull's run of 15 consecutive wins dating back to the 2023 Miami Grand Prix finally came to an end. Sainz's triumph provided hope to Ferrari and the rest of the grid that Red Bull wasn't completely invincible, though the reality was that Singapore's unique characteristics - slow corners, bumpy surface, and extreme heat - exposed rare weaknesses in the RB19. The result prevented Verstappen from winning every remaining race and made F1 history by being the solitary race Red Bull failed to win all season.
