Race Summary

Michael Schumacher clinched his fourth World Championship with a wet-weather masterclass at the Hungarian Grand Prix, wrapping up the title with four races still remaining. The German driver dominated the race in difficult conditions on the tight and twisty Hungaroring, demonstrating his exceptional skill in the rain. Rubens Barrichello followed him across the line for a Ferrari one-two, while David Coulthard completed the podium for McLaren.

Schumacher's championship triumph equaled the record held by Alain Prost and represented his second consecutive title with Ferrari. The victory came after a dominant season where he had won nine races and finished on the podium in every race except one retirement. His championship-clinching drive in the rain at Hungary was a perfect demonstration of why he was considered the best driver of his generation. Ferrari's superior package and Schumacher's mistake-free performances had created an unbeatable combination, with the German sealing the title earlier than any driver since Nigel Mansell in 1992.
