Race Summary

Michael Schumacher opened his title defense with a masterful victory in treacherous wet conditions at Interlagos, demonstrating the racecraft that would define his season. The German driver started second behind Damon Hill's Williams but seized the lead early and never looked back, controlling the race in heavy rain to claim the first of what would be nine victories in 1995.

Hill, starting from pole position, struggled with the wet conditions and finished second, 24 seconds behind Schumacher. David Coulthard completed the podium in the second Williams, ahead of Gerhard Berger's Ferrari. The race showcased Schumacher's exceptional wet-weather skills, a talent that would become one of his defining characteristics. His ability to find grip where others couldn't allowed him to pull away from the field despite Williams' technical superiority in dry conditions.

The victory gave Schumacher the perfect start to his championship defense and sent an early message to Hill and Williams that 1995 would be no straightforward procession. Jean Alesi and Johnny Herbert completed the top five for Ferrari and Benetton respectively, while several drivers struggled with the challenging conditions. The result established the template for the season: Schumacher's brilliance versus Williams' speed.
