Race Summary

Max Verstappen ended the 2020 season with a dominant victory at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, claiming his second win of the year and bringing the curtain down on one of Formula 1's most extraordinary seasons. The Dutch driver controlled the race from pole position at the Yas Marina Circuit, never seriously challenged as he cruised to victory under the lights. The result provided a positive end to a difficult season for Red Bull, who had been comprehensively beaten by Mercedes but showed flashes of competitiveness.

Valtteri Bottas finished second for Mercedes, with Lewis Hamilton completing the podium in third. Daniel Ricciardo set the fastest lap for Renault, capping a strong season for the French manufacturer. The race marked the final Formula 1 appearances for several drivers, most notably Romain Grosjean, who had miraculously recovered from his Bahrain fireball crash to bid farewell to the sport from the pitlane. The Frenchman was unable to compete due to his injuries but attended the race to thank his team and the medical personnel who saved his life.

The Abu Dhabi finale brought to a close a season unlike any other in Formula 1 history. Despite the pandemic's disruption, the championship successfully completed 17 races across a condensed European-focused calendar. Hamilton claimed his record-equaling seventh title with 11 victories, while Mercedes secured their seventh consecutive Constructors' Championship with dominant superiority. The season proved that Formula 1 could adapt and survive through unprecedented challenges, though the memories of racing without fans, masked personnel, and the constant threat of COVID-19 positives would forever mark 2020 as a unique chapter in the sport's history.
