Hamilton controlled proceedings when racing was possible, but had to navigate through two standing restarts to secure his sixth victory of 2020.

The first red flag came on the opening lap when Max Verstappen and Pierre Gasly made contact at Turn 2, triggering a multi-car pile-up that eliminated four drivers. Racing resumed with a standing restart, but disaster struck again on lap 9 when a concertina effect at the Safety Car restart caused a horrific accident.
