Race Summary
Michele Alboreto delivered Ferrari's first victory of the season at Zolder's tight Belgian circuit, ending McLaren's winning streak and providing the Tifosi with hope that the Scuderia could challenge for the championship. The Italian drove brilliantly to hold off Derek Warwick's charging Renault, while teammate Rene Arnoux completed an encouraging Ferrari one-three finish. Both McLarens suffered rare mechanical problems, with Prost retiring and Lauda finishing a distant fourth.
The Belgian Grand Prix demonstrated that McLaren's dominance was not total, and that Ferrari's 126C4 could compete when circumstances favored them. Alboreto's victory at Zolder - a circuit that rewarded precise chassis balance over outright power - showed Ferrari's traditional strengths in handling and driver talent remained assets in the turbo era. However, the race would prove an outlier in a season where McLaren's superior reliability and technical excellence made them nearly unbeatable.
