Race Summary

Jackie Stewart salvaged some pride from a disappointing championship defense with victory at the Canadian Grand Prix at Mosport, the Scottish star demonstrating his class on the challenging Ontario circuit. Stewart controlled the race from the front, holding off the McLaren duo of Peter Revson and Denny Hulme to claim his third win of the season. The victory couldn't change the championship outcome, but it demonstrated that Stewart remained a formidable force when his Tyrrell held together.

The race at Mosport's demanding road course saw Stewart deliver a vintage performance, exploiting the Tyrrell 005's improved reliability to build an early lead and manage it expertly throughout. Revson drove an excellent race to finish second, the American's consistent season establishing him as a genuine championship contender for future years. Hulme's third place completed a McLaren 2-3 finish that highlighted the team's return to regular competitiveness.

With new champion Fittipaldi finishing out of the points after mechanical problems, Stewart's victory provided a reminder of what might have been had Tyrrell's early-season reliability been better. The Canadian Grand Prix demonstrated the fine margins in Formula 1, where machinery reliability often proved as important as outright speed. Stewart's win gave Tyrrell some consolation in a season where they had been beaten by a younger driver in an older car, setting up an intriguing battle for 1973.
