Biography

Walt Brown (December 30, 1911 - July 29, 1951): An American racing driver from Springfield, Massachusetts, Brown competed in the Indianapolis 500 during the early years of the Formula One World Championship. He participated in three championship races (all Indianapolis 500s) between 1950 and 1951, with his best finish being 12th in 1950. Brown was known as a competent midget car and sprint car racer before moving up to Championship racing. His career exemplified the typical progression of American oval track racers during the 1940s and 1950s, starting in smaller cars before eventually competing at Indianapolis.

Tragically, Brown died from injuries sustained in a crash at Williams Grove Speedway in Pennsylvania in 1951, highlighting the dangerous nature of oval track racing during that period.
