Jack McGrath (October 8, 1919 - November 6, 1955): An American racing driver from Los Angeles, California, McGrath was one of the top competitors at the Indianapolis 500 during the early 1950s. He participated in six Formula One World Championship races (all Indianapolis 500s) between 1950 and 1955, achieving two podium finishes including second place in 1951. Known for his fearless driving style and ability to handle powerful front-engine roadsters, McGrath was a genuine threat to win every time he competed at Indianapolis. Tragically, his promising career was cut short when he died from injuries sustained in a crash at the 1955 Arizona State Fairgrounds dirt track race in Phoenix.
His death at age 36 robbed American motorsport of one of its brightest stars during what was arguably his competitive prime.
