Race Summary

Damon Hill closed out the 1995 season with a dominant victory at the Australian Grand Prix, the final race to be held on the Adelaide street circuit. The Williams driver led from start to finish, controlling the race in changing conditions to claim his fifth win of the season and sign off with some pride despite losing the championship to Michael Schumacher.

Olivier Panis finished second for Ligier in a career-best result, capitalizing on attrition and strong wet-weather skills to claim his first podium. Gianni Morbidelli completed the podium for Footwork in a stunning result, the Italian driver's only F1 podium finish in a fairy-tale ending to a difficult season for the small team. Schumacher could only finish seventh after an off-track excursion, though with the championship long since secured, the result mattered little to the German.

The race was run in mixed conditions, with rain showers adding unpredictability to the season finale. Hill's victory provided some consolation after his championship disappointment, demonstrating that he had the speed to win when circumstances aligned. The result also marked the end of an era for Adelaide, which had hosted the Australian Grand Prix since 1985. From 1996, the race would move to Melbourne's Albert Park circuit, bringing the curtain down on one of Formula 1's most challenging and beloved street circuits.
