Race Summary

Michael Schumacher continued his perfect start to the season with a commanding victory at the inaugural Pacific Grand Prix at TI Circuit Aida in Japan. Starting from pole position, Ayrton Senna led the opening stages but was unable to match Schumacher's pace, eventually finishing outside the points after being lapped. Gerhard Berger delivered a strong performance for Ferrari to finish second, while young Rubens Barrichello claimed his first career podium with an impressive drive for Jordan-Hart, delighting his supporters after his strong performance in Brazil.

The race further exposed Williams' struggles with the FW16, as Senna could not convert pole position into a competitive race performance. Schumacher's two victories from two races gave him a commanding 20-point lead in the championship and established the German as the clear favorite. The Benetton B194 appeared perfectly suited to the new regulations, while Williams continued to search for answers to their handling problems.
