Biography

Eric Rene Bernard (24 August 1964 - Present): French racing driver from Martigues who competed in Formula One from 1989 to 1994. Achieved 1 podium and 10 championship points across 45 races with Larrousse, Ligier, and Lotus. Won the 1988 French Formula 3 Championship and 1989 International Formula 3000 Championship before making his F1 debut with Larrousse at the 1989 French Grand Prix. His most successful season was 1990 when he scored 5 championship points with Larrousse, including fifth place at the British Grand Prix.

His sole podium came at the 1994 German Grand Prix at Hockenheim, where he finished third for Ligier during a chaotic, rain-affected race marked by multiple incidents. That race also saw Olivier Panis finish second for Ligier, giving the French team a double podium. Moved to Lotus for the final two races of 1994 but failed to score further points. Left F1 after 1994 as no competitive drives were available.

Post-F1, Bernard competed in sports car racing, including multiple participations at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and various touring car championships. His F1 career represented solid if unspectacular performances in midfield machinery, with his Hockenheim podium providing a memorable highlight. Remains involved in motorsport and occasionally participates in historic racing events.
