Biography

Takuma Sato (28 January 1977 - Present): Japanese racing driver from Tokyo, Japan. Competed in Formula 1 for Jordan (2002), BAR Honda (2003-2005), and Super Aguri (2006-2008), making 90 starts with 1 podium and 44 career points. After beginning karting in Tokyo with Honda's support, Sato moved to Europe in 1999. He made his F1 debut with Jordan in 2002, then joined BAR for 2003-2005, achieving his only F1 podium with 3rd at the 2004 United States Grand Prix—the first for a Japanese driver since Aguri Suzuki in 1990.

His excellent 2004 season saw him finish 8th in the championship with 34 points, the best-ever season for a Japanese driver, scoring points in nine of 11 completed races and passing Fernando Alonso's McLaren at Montreal. Honda helped form Super Aguri in 2006 with Sato as lead driver until the team folded after the 2008 Spanish GP. Post-F1, Sato achieved remarkable IndyCar success, becoming the first Asian driver to win an IndyCar race (2013 Long Beach) and a two-time Indianapolis 500 winner (2017, 2020), remaining the only Asian driver to win the event. Renowned for his aggressive 'No Attack, No Chance' motto.
