Philippe Streiff

Philippe Streiff (26 June 1955 - 23 December 2022): French racing driver from La Tronche, Isère, who competed in Formula One from 1984 to 1988. Achieved 1 podium and 11 championship points across 53 races with Renault, Ligier, Tyrrell, and AGS. Won the 1981 French Formula Three Championship before progressing to Formula Two. Made F1 debut at 1984 Portuguese Grand Prix with Renault. His sole podium came with third place at the 1985 Australian Grand Prix for Ligier.

Career appeared promising when he joined Tyrrell for 1986-1987, scoring consistent points. Moved to AGS for 1988, but his season was cut short when he suffered a career-ending crash during pre-season testing at Jacarepagua in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on 8 March 1989. The accident left him paralyzed from the neck down and wheelchair-bound for the rest of his life. Despite his profound disability, Streiff remained active in motorsport and disability advocacy.

Became a disability rights activist and worked to improve accessibility in sports and daily life. Organized karting events for disabled children and worked with the Philippe Streiff Association to support people with disabilities. Served as a motorsport consultant and remained connected to the F1 community. Died on 23 December 2022 at age 67. His courage and determination to contribute to society despite his injuries made him an inspirational figure far beyond his racing achievements.
