Biography

Duncan Hamilton (April 30, 1920 - May 13, 1994): An Irish-born British racing driver, Hamilton achieved his greatest success in sports car racing, most notably winning the 1953 24 Hours of Le Mans alongside Tony Rolt in a Jaguar C-Type. He participated in five Formula One World Championship Grands Prix between 1951 and 1953, with a best finish of sixth place. Hamilton was famous for his larger-than-life personality and hard-living lifestyle, with legendary stories about his racing exploits both on and off the track. Despite his playboy reputation, he was a genuinely talented driver with exceptional car control and bravery.

His autobiography "Touch Wood" remains one of the most entertaining motorsport memoirs ever written, capturing the glamorous and dangerous world of 1950s racing. Hamilton's colorful character and remarkable driving ability made him one of the most memorable figures in British motorsport history.
