
Peter Whitehead (November 12, 1914 - September 21, 1958): An English racing driver from Menston, West Yorkshire, Whitehead competed in the early years of Formula One while achieving success across multiple racing disciplines. He participated in 10 World Championship Grands Prix between 1950 and 1954, achieving one podium finish with third place at the 1950 French Grand Prix. Whitehead is best known for winning the 1951 24 Hours of Le Mans co-driving a Jaguar C-Type with Peter Walker, contributing to Jaguar's first victory in the famous endurance race. He also competed successfully in the Mille Miglia and various British racing events.
Tragically, Whitehead died in a crash during practice for the 1958 Tour de France automobile rally at age 43, ending the career of one of Britain's most versatile racing drivers.
