Biography

George Abecassis (March 21, 1913 - December 18, 1991): An English racing driver from Oatlands, Surrey, Abecassis was a significant figure in early post-war motorsport. He co-founded HWM (Hersham and Walton Motors) with John Heath, competing in Formula One during the early 1950s. Abecassis participated in the inaugural 1950 Formula One World Championship season and competed in a total of five World Championship Grands Prix between 1951 and 1952. Beyond F1, he was highly successful in sports car racing, competing at Le Mans multiple times and achieving class victories.

His engineering knowledge and driving skill made him a respected figure in British motorsport. After retiring from driving, he continued his involvement in racing through team management and car development, contributing to the growth of British motorsport during its formative years.
