Hirakawa built his career in Japan, winning the 2017 Super GT GT500 title and competing for years at the front of Super Formula. In endurance racing he joined Toyota's World Endurance Championship line-up in 2022, winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the World Endurance Drivers' Championship in his first season with the team.
