
Giovanni de Riu (10 March 1925 - 11 December 2008): Italian racing driver from Macomer on the island of Sardinia who participated in one Formula One World Championship Grand Prix. He competed in the 1965 Italian Grand Prix at Monza, driving a Brabham-BRM, though he failed to qualify for the race. De Riu was more successful in Italian national motorsport, particularly in hill climbs and sports car racing where he achieved numerous victories throughout the 1960s and 1970s. He was one of the few Sardinian drivers to compete at the Formula One level, representing his island region in international motorsport.
Beyond driving, de Riu contributed to the development of motorsport infrastructure in Sardinia and helped establish racing events on the island. His passion for motorsport and dedication to representing Sardinia in racing made him a beloved figure in Italian regional motorsport.
