Biography

Emmanuel Leo Ludwig "Toulo" de Graffenried (May 18, 1914 - January 22, 2007): A Swiss racing driver from an aristocratic family, de Graffenried participated in 23 Formula One World Championship Grands Prix between 1950 and 1956. He achieved two podium finishes and was a consistent points scorer during the early 1950s, racing primarily for Maserati. Before Formula One's World Championship era, de Graffenried competed successfully in Grand Prix racing during the late 1940s. His smooth driving style and technical feedback made him valuable to racing teams.

Beyond Grand Prix racing, he competed in sports car events including Le Mans. Living to age 92, de Graffenried was one of the last surviving drivers from the inaugural 1950 Formula One season, serving as a living link to the sport's founding era and providing historical perspective on early Grand Prix racing.
