William "Wild Bill" Cantrell (January 31, 1908 - January 22, 1996): An American powerboat and IndyCar racing driver, Cantrell competed in the Indianapolis 500 during the 1950s. He participated in two Formula One World Championship races (both Indianapolis 500s) in 1950 and 1952. Known primarily for his success in powerboat racing, where he set numerous speed records and won multiple championships, Cantrell's nickname "Wild Bill" reflected his fearless approach to high-speed competition. His crossover into automobile racing was typical of American drivers during this era who competed across multiple disciplines.
