Mauri Rose (May 26, 1906 - January 1, 1981): An American racing driver from Columbus, Ohio, Rose was a three-time Indianapolis 500 winner (1941, 1947, 1948), making him one of the most successful drivers in the race's history. During the period when the Indianapolis 500 counted toward the Formula One World Championship (1950-1960), Rose participated in four championship races between 1950 and 1951, with his best finish being third in 1950. Known for his smooth driving style and mechanical sympathy, Rose was particularly successful in the immediate post-World War II period. His 1948 Indianapolis 500 victory was particularly notable as he led all 200 laps, a feat rarely achieved.
Rose's career spanned from the 1930s through the early 1950s, and his success at Indianapolis cemented his legacy as one of American motorsport's greatest champions.
