Bobby Ball (August 26, 1925 - February 27, 1954): An American racing driver from Phoenix, Arizona, Ball competed in IndyCar racing during the early 1950s. He participated in three Formula One World Championship races (all Indianapolis 500s) between 1951 and 1953, with his best finish being 10th in 1952. Ball was considered a rising talent in American oval racing, showing particular promise on the high-speed Indianapolis Motor Speedway. His smooth driving style and technical understanding of car setup impressed team owners and fellow competitors alike.
Tragically, Ball's promising career was cut short when he died at age 28 from injuries sustained during a sprint car race at the Arizona State Fairgrounds in Phoenix. His death was another reminder of the extreme dangers faced by racers during the 1950s.
